Aviation Metals Services and Capabilities

We understand that some purchases have special requirements above and beyond just purchasing metal & materials.

That’s why we offer many specialty services including:

Services

Cutting to Size

Aviation Metals has the capability of cutting your material to desired size based on your requirements. This service includes shearing, slitting, laser, plasma, and water-jet cutting.

Heat Treating

Heat treating is a treatment process to modify the properties of metals and metal alloys. Common heat treating services include annealing, austempering, case hardening, conventional hardening, homogenizing, hot isostatic pressing (HIP), martempering, normalizing, precipitation hardening, shot peening, solution treating, spheroidizing, stabilizing, and stress relieving.

Gun Drilling

Gun drilling is a highly flexible, efficient and quick method of producing deep or shallow close-tolerance holes with smooth surface finishes, usually in one pass. This often eliminates the need for reaming, honing, or other finishing operations.

Trepanning

Trepanning is a method of producing large deep holes economically from solid. The process can also be used for boring tubing where heavy stock removal is needed. A specially designed hollow tool cuts a narrow circular path in the work piece and leaves a solid core. Because all the material is not being removed, the rate of penetration by trepanning is much faster than other methods. Trepanning can produce I.D.s to 24" in diameter, lengths to 60 feet and walls to any desired thickness.

Anodizing

An electrolytic process for producing controlled aluminum oxide films on aluminum that offers high corrosion resistance, increased durability, and is resistant to stains and scratches. It also is a good insulator and nonconductive along with adding a decorative appearance. We offer many different types of anodizing including phosphoric acid (PAA), chromium acid, boric - sulfuric acid, and hard coating anodizing.

Chem-Milling

Chemical milling is a process for the removal of metal by chemical action and is ideally suited for production of flat, relatively thin parts of unlimited configurations, and for other jobs requiring area, point, or line removal of metal. Quality is consistent with no effect on temper or hardness. This process does not introduce edge stresses, dimensional changes and produces burr-free parts.

Grinding

We realize some materials require odd or non-standard sizes that require grinding. Aviation Metals offers:

Centerless Grinding is a technique for machining parts having a circular cross section consisting of grinding the rod, which is fed without mounting it on centers. Grinding is accomplished by working the material between wheels, which rotate at different speeds, the faster wheel being the abrasive wheel.

Blanchard Grinding is a technique accomplished through rotary work motions, with the worktable rotating counterclockwise and the abrasive wheel rotating clockwise. All work pieces being ground receive the same treatment resulting in uniform size and surface finish.

Material Testing

For specialized certification requirements, Aviation Metals offers independent testing, either destructive or non destructive. Such testing including chemical or metallurgical analysis, mechanical testing, visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, and ultrasonic inspection are all offered.

Export / Customized Packing & Shipping

Aviation Metals, Inc. strictly complies with all U.S. export laws and regulations, which are subject under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Learn more about export policies.

Whether shipped 1 mile across town or exported 5000 miles overseas, Aviation Metals offers customized packaging to better assure that your material is safe and not damaged in transit. Our export packaging meets the international ISPM-15 standards.

AOG / Same Day Shipping
